Cross walk Signal Malfunction
The signal for the sight impaired is constantly on and is very loud. It far exceeds the decibal limit at over 94 decibals. We hear it with doors closed and even keeps me from sleeping. When we are outside it is most disturbing. I know that a contractor has come out about it but it needs to be fixed immediately.

We have been to one of the locations and are in process to the other locations to reduce the pedestrian button locator volumes. The audible crossing volumes will still be at 5 percent over the ambient noise levels but these volumes should only be heard when the pedestrian phase has been activated. The button locator volume is being reduced to where a pedestrian can hear it as they approach the intersection. We will continue to monitor these sites and make any other necessary adjustments as needed while still complying with any regulations for these audible signals. Please contact Chris Jefferson directly if you have any questions (chris.jefferson@raleighnc.gov)
I'll refer this back to our technician and let you know when he's responded.
It is not better. I still can hear it with my doors and windows shut and it is still loud when we are outside. I have a pool in my back yard right across the street and diagonal from that signal and I DO NOT want to hear that when I am trying to sit out by my pool. It needs to be turned down. There is a signal at the next intersection of Crofton Springs and Durant Rd. that is nice and quiet but can still be heard when standing near it. Why does this signal have to be so loud! I am sure that it still excededs the legal decibal limit. One of my neighbors measured that decibals with a decibal meter. The legal limit is 55 decibals. Please reduce this noise further!!!!!!!
We've made some adjustments here. The volume should be better now.
I've referred this to our Public Works Department. I will update this issue when I have heard back from them. Thanks for reporting.
