Ruby on Rails Developer
As a developer on our small core team you'll have a huge impact on all of our current and future projects. Your engagement will span the entire product life cycle, including: product design, implementation, deployment, refinement and ongoing performance and scalability tuning.
This position is for full-time employment, on-site at our office in downtown New Haven.
What We're Looking For
The right person for the job will have a strong commitment to engineering excellence and a drive for continuous process improvement. We’re looking for somebody who thinks outside of the box and offers creative solutions for our interesting and challenging problems. For three or more years, you've been:
- Shipping web-based applications to production with Ruby on Rails
- Passionately and aggressively refactoring code
- Have hands on experience with RESTful and SOAP APIs
- Using Test-Driven Development to guide your software designs and catch bugs and regressions
- Pursuing software engineering as a craft outside of your day job
Additionally, you'll need:
- Great code that you're proud of, preferably open source.
- Strong understanding of modern client-side engineering techniques using JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
- Interest in working as part of an iterative, collaborative, Agile software development process. You'll be able to work well alongside user experience designers, members of the support team and business stakeholders.
International / Community Market Intern - Credit Only
The International/Community Market Intern assists the Community Manager in operating day-to-day tasks with managing the SeeClickFix community. The intern will act as a liaison for SeeClickFix between the community, media, and government officials. The intern carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: marketing, social media outreach, customer relations, public relations, and writing.
Duties
- Proactively and creatively assist citizens
- Create watch areas for citizens, media partners, and governments
- Monitor, moderate, and engage in online conversations on SeeClickFix forum
- Identify patterns and trends in customer requests and product performance
- Generate compelling content for SeeClickFix social media accounts
- Author creative blog posts to communicate SeeClickFix government, media and community updates.
- Communicate issues, opportunities, and insights to the company at large
- Represent and act as an advocate for SeeClickFix within the community
Qualifications
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Is comfortable in a telesales environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Great communicator and enjoys working with helping people
- Net savvy with social media tools and web 2.0
- Proficient in any foreign language is a plus
- Experience in customer service, marketing, and blogging a plus
