    Loud Recycling Pickup Overnight Acknowledged

Davie And Blake Streets Raleigh, NC - Central

Blank Clark Griswald about 13 hours ago

Yes, absolutely. This wakes me up most nights! It seriously affects the quality of life in Founders Row, at least in the units that face the street.

If it's a violation of the city noise ordinance, then that should absolutely be enforced, even for city services such as recycling pickup.

    Blank too loud (Guest) 2012-05-21

We need to protect the rights of our downtown residents. I am sorry to hear about your disturbances. Yeah, I have emailed council members before and have never, ever received a single response, unfortunately...

    Blank RaleighDwntn 2012-05-21

Thank you for the response! I would suggest the intersection of Blake and Martin St. There is no residential building across from/next to that intersection.

    Blank City of Raleigh 2012-05-21

Because of the volume of recycling generated in downtown, at the request of the business owners we do a late-night pickup throughout downtown. I will notify the Solid Waste Services Department. Maybe they can work out a different location for these particular cans. I will update when they have responded.

The best way to help us respond to something like this is to call 911 or contact the Northwest Police District directly (919-996-2300) when a party is going on. Unfortunately we do not have enough officers to constantly patrol here, but we will respond if you contact the Police while the noise is happening.

I don't think your response is very neighborly and is exactly the type of personal interaction I'd rather avoid. You imply that I'm unneighborly, unfriendly, afraid of my neighbors and attacking them by "siccing" (1. To set upon; attack. 2. To urge or incite to hostile action) the city on them. I'm going to choose to think that you didn't mean it that way, but when you start your comment with "This is so unneighborly" it's hard to take it as anything but a personal attack.

It sounds like you want to do what the city does but have you mediate things instead of the government officials and use your private group instead of the public forum of SeeClickFix. Hopefully all the city employees are neighborly so I'm not sure I see any benefit of doing this through private actors instead of public ones.

I've submitted these types of request before in Boylan Heights and Glenwood South and find they get taken care of quite quickly. This is the first time I've seen the response be that there is a "public nuisance case" initiated. Normally the response is just that they say they'll clean it up and they do. In fact I submitted another case right down the street at the same time yesterday and it's already been cleaned up. I'm not sure what the city means by "initiated a public nuisance case". Maybe it just means no one was home so they left a form, maybe it means there have been recurring problems at this location, maybe it means the homeowner was a jerk about it and so the inspector made it an official case. Whatever the reason, I expect the result will be better because it was a city official and not me (or you).

If you want to be neighborly, have all the sidewalks in Boylan Heights (and the Glenwood South/Cameron Village area) maintained so they're not overgrown with vegetation. That would make it easier for people to walk the neighborhood and allow everyone to be more neighborly.

    Blank Elizabeth (Guest) 2012-05-21

This is so unneighborly. Approaching your neighbor personally would be much kinder than siccing the City on them. Afraid to approach the owner of the problem property in Boylan Heights? Contact me and I will be happy to confidentially appeal to the neighbor to fix the problem. Anonymity is great but not necessarily friendly.

Or leave an anonymous note under my door at 422 Cutler Street and I will be glad to investigate the problem and contact the owner of the property before the City has to pay them a visit. Then I will send an update through our neighborhood Google Group.

I am sorry to see ClickFix becoming a vehicle for petty complaints which could be resolved with a little personal interaction..

The intersection of Centennial Parkway and Oval Drive has a no right turn on red mainly due to the greenway section crossing Oval Drive. The ADA wheel chair ramps dictate where the marked crosswalk will go and the stop bar location is dictated by the marked crosswalk. Stop bars should be located four feet behind any marked crosswalks. This is per the Federal Highway Administration’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Since the stop bar is located almost 50’ back from the intersecting road, the sight distance is not adequate for right turns on red if measured behind the stop bar. For further inquiry, please contact Jed Niffenegger via email at jed.niffenegger@raleighnc.gov.

This intersection does not have any pedestrian infrastructure such as sidewalks and wheelchair ramps. The city and NCDOT does not install pedestrian crosswalks or signals with out infrastructure in place. There is a corridor study planned for later this year that will look at Wilmington Street from Downtown to Tryon Road. This study will include the feasibility of providing pedestrian accommodations in the future.

Our inspector has been in contact with the property owner, who has agreed to clean up the yard in the next few days to avoid a second citation. I will leave this open for now until he gets it cleaned up.

    Blank Anon (Guest) 2012-05-21

I am reopening this as clearly the inspector spent little effort actually inspecting the backyard of this property. There are multiple sources of standing water and there is an infestation of mosquitoes. There IS a great deal of refuse in the back - largely spent cans and liquor bottles, which also fosters mosquitoes. There is a large amount of trash in the front yards that includes cans, discarded clothing, bottles. Whoever went over there and signed off on that needs to clean their glasses.

Blank City of Raleigh 2012-05-21 Issue Closed

The inspector did inspect the entire property, but the amount of trash in the back yard did not constitute a violation of the nuisance regulations.

    Blank City of Raleigh 2012-05-21

I will check with the inspector about the back yard. We can only require that he remove anything that would constitute a public nuisance under our ordinances. He can leave the property vacant as long as it is secured (boarded or otherwise secured from illegal entry), keeps the grass cut and does not allow trash to accumulate in the yard to the extent that it constitutes a nuisance. The police have more leverage to arrest trespassers if he posts a "No Trespassing" sign. Unfortunately our laws are not designed to turn everyone into a responsible homeowner, only to enforce a set of minimum standards.

    Blank Nathan Abernathy 2012-05-21

Thank you for your attention to this issue. While i am glad that the glass, trash and overgrowth have somewhat been cleared from the sidewalk, I would also like the trash on the property removed including empty beer bottles, liquor bottles from the back yard.
Could you be more specific when you say "stabilize and secure the property?"
I would hope that the owner would be proactive in responding to these issues as opposed to having to respond to them based off of complaints from neighbors every few months. I sincerely hope that I do not have to reopen this issue in 3 weeks due to continued neglect.

We have made a couple of arrests for trespassing, have contacted the property owner and are working with him to stabilize and secure the property and post "No Trespassing" signs.

This sign was erected by TTA. They are responsible for its content. We have informed them. Please see the contact info below if you want to follow up with them also.

Blank Common Sense Man (Guest) 2012-05-21

The original issue was about the bus stop sign and no parking sign painted over by graffiti.
The CIty of Raleigh "fixed" the signs by putting up a new bus stop sign and a new no parking sign. The new sign put up by the City of Raleigh is wrong. The CIty should be responsible for fixing the mistake they made.

The City installed the new bus stop sign with the wrong route numbers on it. Anyone with a little common sense would have checked into the correct route numbers before sticking them on the sign if they didn't know the correct routes. and should own up to their error and fix it.
